The Wilsons: Pizza Socks... A Song & Video In One Day

The Wilsons (Yet to be released)

The Wilsons are a family band, consisting currently of singer/song writer Xav and as yet to play on a track, big brother Joe of bass. Xav's been producing music since he was a year old, mostly improvisational avant-garde percussion pieces. His first love is percussion, producing his first track at a year and a half, while staying in Bali and attending drumming workshops. There he developed his love of the djembe, but always hankered after being a jazz/rock drummer. Originally born in Gangnam, Seoul, Xav took his early inspiration from traditional Korean drumming and Gangnam Style by Psy. Since moving to the UK, he's progressed onto a rock drum-kit, as well as the dejembe, and guitar. He started writing his own lyrics at the end of 2014, which developed over early 2015 into his first release, Pizza Socks. With his quirky lyrics, unusual traditional Asian drumming influenced off-beat Jazz style, the music industry is watching this hot new musical talent with great interest.
Pizza Socks is Xav's first official release under the name The Wilsons, (Joe get on this before it's too late). However, his first unofficial release was from his Bali session, and what he simply describes as "Xav Drumming". The piece was recorded in one session, on the 16th of February 2013, at the Mercure Resort, Retro Beach, Sanur, Bali. It was influenced by his time spent hanging out in the free flowing hippy heart of Bali, Ubud. It was especially influenced by his time spent at the Yellow Coco Creative Nest drumming circle. His desire to remain unencumbered by "rules" shines through, letting his natural rhythmic almost tribal beats just flow. We here at Weird Retro say that Xav and his band The Wilsons are one to watch out for in the years to come.
Xav is also the founding member of the underground Dadaist art collective, "The X Collective". But the less said about that the better.
