The low-budget zombie comedy horror directed by Bob Clark, who went on the direct such diverse cult classics as Black Christmas (1974), A Christmas Story (1983), and Porky's (1981). The movie was shot in just 14 days, with Clark bringing in college friends to be in it.
A troupe of actors go to a creepy island where there's a cemetery filled with the dead bodies of criminals to perform a black magic rite, to raise the dead. Yeah, you can guess what's going to happen next! The troupe are lead by their dick-head of a director, Alan (played by co-writer and special effects "expert" Alan Ormsby). Who gets the troupe to dig-up the corpse of Orville, to perform the ritual on. Appearing to have failed, a disappointed Alan using the corpse of Orville to humiliate and bully his fellow actors. But all is not as it seems, and somewhat late in the movie the dead rise-up and are coming for the troupe. By which time, you are almost cheering on the zombies to kill the troupe of annoying actors and especially Alan, who you want to be killed in the most painful way possible.
In many ways the movie can be seen as an EC Comic brought life. The dark comedy, the ridiculous premise of doing a Satanic ritual in a cemetery of a creepy island, the deserted house, the characters who deserve to and you know are going to die by the 3rd act. It's all in there, and it's cleverly done. Low-budget, over-the-top acting (really over-the-top acting), some dodgy zombie make-up, but overall a little gem of a zombie flick.
